Orisec Engineer Code, User Code Change and Lockout Reset

How Orisec user codes work, what causes a lockout, and when an engineer reset is needed

Locked out of your Orisec alarm or need a code reset in Medway or Kent?

We work on Orisec systems across Chatham, Medway, Kent and South East London and offer free phone guidance on code changes before booking an engineer for a full reset. Call 01634 944161 today.

No call centres, a real engineer answers.

Orisec panels do not have a universal engineer code that can be used on an installed system; the engineer code is normally changed at installation and held by the installer. You can usually change your own user code from the keypad menu with a master user code. If the engineer code is unknown, the panel needs an engineer to regain access without losing its settings.

Orisec alarm panels allow each household member to have their own user code, which can usually be changed through a menu on the keypad without needing any special tools. This is useful when someone moves out, a code has been shared too widely, or you simply want to update it periodically for peace of mind.

A lockout is a separate situation, where the panel temporarily blocks further code entry after several incorrect attempts in a row. This is a deliberate security measure to stop someone repeatedly guessing codes, and it usually clears itself after a set waiting period rather than needing any reset.

If the master code itself has been forgotten, changing or adding user codes is not possible until it is recovered, since the master code menu is what unlocks the ability to manage other users. In that situation an engineer reset is typically the only reliable route back in.

    What You Will Usually Notice

You want to change or remove a user code from the system
The keypad refuses further code entry after several wrong attempts
A message on screen indicates the system is temporarily locked
You cannot access the user code menu because the master code is unknown
A previous occupant or contractor's code is still active and needs removing

Safe Checks You Can Do Yourself

    1

Locate the user code menu using the master code

If you know the master code, enter the keypad menu and look for the user code or engineer menu option, following your Orisec user guide to add, change or remove a code.

    2

Change one code at a time

Update codes individually rather than all at once, confirming each change is accepted by the keypad before moving to the next, to avoid confusion over which code belongs to which user.

    3

    Wait out a lockout period

If the keypad indicates it is temporarily locked after incorrect attempts, avoid repeatedly entering codes and instead wait the period shown, or a short while, before trying the correct master code again.

    4

    Note down new codes securely

Once codes are changed, record them somewhere safe rather than relying on memory alone, so you are not left unable to access the system if the change is forgotten later.

    5

Remove old codes for anyone who no longer needs access

If a former occupant, cleaner or contractor no longer needs a code, delete it through the user menu as soon as convenient, keeping the list of active codes accurate and secure.

    What Normally Causes It

The master code has been forgotten

Without the master code, the user code menu cannot be accessed, which prevents adding, removing or changing any other codes on the system until the master code is recovered.

    Repeated incorrect code entry

Orisec panels include a lockout feature that activates after several wrong attempts in a row, deliberately slowing down anyone trying to guess a valid code, including the rightful user in a hurry.

    A code shared too widely

If a user code has been given to several people over time, it is common to want to reset it for security, particularly after a change in who has regular access to the property.

    Confusion between multiple similar codes

Households with several codes set up for different people sometimes mix them up, leading to repeated incorrect entries that trigger a lockout even though a valid code does exist.

A previous professional reset changing defaults

If an engineer has previously reset the panel, default or temporary codes may have been left in place that differ from what the household expects, causing confusion when trying to log in.

When to Stop and Call an Engineer

The master code has been forgotten and cannot be recovered from any written record
The lockout period has passed but the correct master code still will not work
You need to fully reset the panel back to factory settings
The user code menu behaves unexpectedly or will not save changes
You suspect the panel has an underlying fault beyond the code system itself

    Keeping it from coming back

Keep a written or securely stored record of the master code and current user codes, and review the list periodically so that codes belonging to former occupants or contractors are removed promptly rather than left active.
