    How a WiFi installation works

Start with the places where connection matters: a desk upstairs, a meeting room or the far end of the garden. During a WiFi site survey, we look at those locations alongside the existing router and building layout. A weak wireless signal is different from a slow incoming internet connection; identifying the limitation helps avoid buying equipment that cannot address it.

The proposed layout sets out access point positions and how each connects back to the network. We consider network cabling for backhaul alongside wireless mesh connections, then agree the installation routes. After fitting and configuring the equipment, room-by-room checks show how it performs where you use it. Handover covers the network settings and how to connect your devices, rather than leaving you with unfamiliar equipment to configure.

    Installation options

Mesh systems connect several wireless units, while ceiling or wall access points can use a cable connection. Placement matters in either arrangement: hiding a unit behind furniture or putting it beyond a useful signal path can limit the result. Where appropriate, PoE switches carry power and data to compatible access points through their network cables.

For business WiFi networks, discuss who should connect and what they should reach. Separate guest and staff networks, with VLAN segregation where suitable, can keep visitor access apart from internal equipment. These choices need configuration as well as additional wireless coverage.

A garden office or outbuilding needs a dependable connection to the main building, not just an indoor unit pointed towards a window. Fibre links between buildings are an option to discuss alongside the available routes. We also carry out Ubiquiti UniFi installations, matching the configuration to your home or workplace rather than choosing by brand alone.

The quote reflects property size and construction, the access points required and the route for their cables. Accessible existing routes can make a different job from cabling through finished rooms. Read our WiFi installation cost guide for the factors to compare. A free survey lets us explain the proposed work before you decide. Tell us about planned extensions too, so the layout considers where you will need coverage later.
