No call centres, a real engineer answers.

Risco's LightSYS and Agility ranges are widely fitted across Kent because they pair a traditional keypad with a smartphone app, which gives homeowners flexibility but also means there are two places codes and access can go wrong: the physical panel and the linked app account. Understanding which one is causing the problem is the first step to fixing it.

On the panel side, Risco systems use a grand master code that sits above ordinary user codes, similar in principle to other brands, and losing that top-level code generally means you cannot self-manage the system any further without help. On the app side, losing access is usually about account credentials or a device that has been re-linked incorrectly, which is a different and often simpler problem to solve.

This guide separates the two situations clearly, because trying to fix an app login issue by fiddling with the physical panel, or vice versa, tends to waste time and can occasionally lock the system further if engineer-level menus are entered by accident.

    What You Will Usually Notice

The grand master code no longer works on the keypad
The Risco app shows the panel as offline or will not accept your login
A user code has stopped working after a household change
The keypad locks out after several failed code attempts
You cannot arm or disarm remotely even though local keypad use still works

Safe Checks You Can Do Yourself

    1

Work out whether it's the panel or the app at fault

Try arming and disarming at the physical keypad first. If that works fine but the app does not, the issue sits with your app account or internet connection rather than the panel itself.

    2

Check your Wi-Fi or mobile signal near the panel

Risco systems need a stable connection to communicate with the app. A router restart or checking the panel's connection light can rule out a simple network issue before assuming the app is broken.

    3

Reset your app password through the official app or portal

If you cannot log into the app, use the standard forgotten password process within the app itself, which is separate from any code stored on the physical panel.

    4

Try the grand master code carefully, allowing for the lockout timer

If the grand master code is rejected, try once more slowly and correctly rather than repeatedly, since Risco panels also impose a temporary lockout after several wrong attempts.

    5

Check your installer's welcome pack for recorded codes

Many installations come with a printed record of the grand master code and initial app setup details. Check any paperwork or emails from the time of installation before assuming everything is lost.

    What Normally Causes It

The grand master code has been forgotten or was never recorded

Without this top-level code, homeowners cannot manage lower-level user codes themselves, and the panel's own security design means this cannot be bypassed without proper reset access.

An app account is linked to an old phone number or email

If the account details tied to the Risco app have changed, such as a new phone number, login and notification issues can occur even though the panel itself is working normally.

The panel has lost its internet or network connection

A router change, broadband outage or a moved panel location can all interrupt the connection the panel relies on to talk to the app, without affecting local keypad arming at all.

Multiple failed code attempts have triggered a lockout

As a security measure, repeated incorrect code entries cause a temporary keypad lockout, which is often mistaken for a fault rather than the intended anti-tamper behaviour.

A previous installer or tenant's app account still holds admin access

On properties with a change of ownership or tenancy, an old app account may still technically control the system until it is properly transferred, which needs engineer or installer involvement.

When to Stop and Call an Engineer

You have lost the grand master code and cannot access any user-level menu on the keypad
The app will not connect to the panel even after confirming your network is working
You believe a previous occupant's app account still has control of your system
The keypad remains locked out well beyond the stated timer period
You need to transfer full admin control of the app after moving into a property

    Keeping it from coming back

Keep your Risco app account details and grand master code recorded somewhere secure, and ask your installer to formally transfer app admin access whenever ownership or tenancy of the property changes.
